I attended a meeting a block away, and I was really pleased to find this coffee shop close by. I've tried their cappuccino, machiato and cold brew, all really above standard. The guy making my espresso was 100% attentive to how my drink met his expectations, and it was actually first time ever I've seen an espresso been thrown out b/c of substandard crema (that discharged espresso would probably unachievable for 95 of 100 bars)

I had a stay at the Westgate Hotel this past weekend and I was pleasantly surprised to find this little coffee shop right next door. A couple of years ago, there weren't many options for third-wave coffee roasters around the downtown area. With the arrival of WestBean and Coffee & Tea Collective, things are finally turning around. There were several drinks I wanted to try at this place including the cold brew and their specialty drink, the mint-infused cold brew, mysteriously named "kryptonite." Alas, I only had time to try some of their espressos. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of flavored lattes, but the salted caramel latte is a winner. It had the perfect amount of sweetness, balanced by the salt. The baristas here also pull a mean cappuccino. As for the space, it's small, but perfect for the downtown area. I love the long half-log bench that takes up the right side of the cafe and the Edison light bulbs that adorn the walls. I ended up buying a recently roasted bag of Kenyan beans, which one of the baristas recommended to me. Hopefully this microbatch turns out as good as the espressos I tried!

I've come to Westbean Coffee on several occasions and for some reason I have yet to leave a review for this place. Westbean is a local coffee roaster to San Diego, their main headquarters is off Mission Gorge Rd. in Grantville. Here at this café which sits across from the NBC building off Broadway, they serve several drip coffee, pour overs, espresso drinks and even their delicious cold brew. Their drip over coffee is usually a Colombian blend and is always a great way to start the day. If you're looking for a bit more exotic flavorful coffee, they usually have a list giving their selections for pour overs to the left when you walk in. While they do serve pastries, they seem to have an extremely limited selection available. I'm not really a sweet tooth person, so this doesn't bother me in the slightest. If you're in the mood for cold brew, this is a perfect place to get it; they have it fresh on tap and even in containers to-go to bring some home. While parking around this area can be rather exciting at most times, if you have a commercial vehicle like me, there is plenty of yellow zones across the street. Otherwise your best bet is the free validation parking at Horton Plaza Mall which is a bit away, but the coffee is worth it. I usually try to stop in here at least once a week to start my day off with some quality coffee. Support local coffee.

Needed caffeine ASAP & this place hit the spot. I was on my way to my 3rd day of Comic Con & needed caffeine to get me through the entire day. They were offering samples of their cold brew. If you're in need of strong coffee, get their cold brew. It woke me up quick! After realizing I wasn't that tired, I decided to get my favorite, chai tea latte. The barista was kind to ask if I liked cinnamon because their chai tea latte has a good amount of cinnamon. I love cinnamon so I had a feeling their chai latte would be perfect for me. And it was! It was heavenly! I've had a lot of chai tea lattes and they had the perfect balance of chai tea, cinnamon, & not too much milk. I got mine iced & it didn't take up the entire cup. ;) Its always a good day when your coffee or tea gets you through the day. I'll have to come back to try their mint cold brew!!

Great selection of hot and cold coffee. This morning went with the small house drip and it was pretty good with raw sugar and some cream. Open for only a few months this is a nice addition to the Gaslamp area strategically positioned a few feet from the US Grant and across from the NBC Building / Horton Plaza. Great story as the proprietors have been roasting beans for local establishments for over 5 years and decided to open thier first retail location.

This place is an absolute top addition to the flagging Gaslamp/downtown San Diego. They really care about good coffee, and always produced a good cup for me, whether it was a cappuccino, a flat white, or a pourover. They have limited but very tasty pastries - usually a blueberry muffin, a bran muffin, an espresso muffin (delicious in its way but way too sugary) and some banana bread. A little more outdoor seating would be nice, and I wish they were open later, especially on the weekend. Friendly service and quality coffee, I'm looking forward to my next stay at the Westgate almost exclusively for the daily coffee here.

High end coffee service. But not pretentious. I feel that when you build a nice space dedicated to doing 1 thing right, you get results like this. Great coffee. Great service. I really think this is top 3 cafes in the metro area of SD. I love the cortado here. They make a very good cappuccino as well. I don't do white-trash coffee to go, I sit down and have my coffee served in the appropriate gear. So my coffee experience will always be superior to people that think TO-GO is good. It's not. Go in, sit down and enjoy a coffee, the way it was intended. And guess what, you don't make a ton of waste with paper and plastic cups, lids, sleeves etc. The location makes me believe that Broadway is seeing a better future, seems to be that the city along with it's landlords are finally getting it. Finally ending little crack-pipe shop leases and adding value to the Main service road of Broadway and maybe just maybe make the Broadway encompassing area a.....GASP. A neighborhood.

I have to admit, these guys sure know how to make a quality cold brewed iced coffee. I came on a quiet Sunday morning, and ordered that said cold brew and a Vanilla Poppy Sees Scone. The cold brew was bliss. It was full flavored, robust and without a single hint of bitterness. It was very smooth and no doubt made from quality rich coffee beans. What impressed me the most, was how as the ice melted, the cold brew continued to retain it rich bold flavor. The vanilla poppy seed scone was great too. It was most with a mild denseness, not as dense as a traditional scone, but still quite good. I liked the vanilla bean flavor and the icing that came a top. They gents who run the place a re very down to earth and quite knowledgeable about their product. Great place for one of San Diego's best cold brewed coffees. Next, I need to try some of their hot stuff! The offer Wi-Fi and in and our door seating..

One of my favorite coffee places in downtown San Diego. I tried their non-fat vanilla lattee and their krypotnite and both were very good! The service is great and the coffee shop is clean. It is about 75 cents more expensive than your usual coffee shop, but if you want specially crafted coffee that is unique, come here. There is limited seating inside as I saw only about 6 tables that seat about two people each so it would not be the best place to come with a bunch of friends.

My chai latte is beautiful and delicious! Same goes for the staff ;) Friendly smiles from everyone and chill vibes inside.

I've only been here once but I really loved the coffee. I loved that they could do the latte as decaff as well. They offer soy and almond milk, yay! It's a small menu but I like it's no frills. The salted caramel latte was awesome. Not to sweet , just right. And the cute latte art was a nice touch. The staff was great, the guy who took my order was really sweet and friendly. I'd def go back...I'm actually writing this bc I was thinking about going to get a coffee:)

Went here for the first time during San Diego's Caffeine Crawl 2015. If you haven't heard of this event, it's basically a tour of a San Diego's local coffee roasters that provide an educational experience on coffee (roasting, sources, etc). Definitely recommend this event if you want to learn about the local coffee scene. Overall impression, great place to get cold brew coffee, pour overs, and even lattes. Based on their super soft opening, the baristas are really amiable, knowledgable, and are really engaging. According to one of the baristas, they have been roasting for about 5 years now. I've tried the cold brew coffee on tap (from kegs) and it's pretty tasty and refreshing (they used Oaxacan beans, but they play with other beans as well). If you're not a coffee person, they also have teas on tap (cool right?!), which is also in kegs. Can't wait for the further development of this place. Definitely check it out in the near future when all the details get ironed out.

Had a quick stop by for a cup of drip. Holy crap the coffee is strong. DELICIOUS!!! It's nice to have a real coffee house downtown. Prices were reasonable for quality and competitive to the local cafes nearby. Definitely will be back. They have cold brew on TAP! How awesome is that. Some options for co-coffee goodies but limited. Juices and teas available for those who can't handle the caffeinated punch. It's a cute place where you can hold a brief business meeting and amp up for the rest of the afternoon. An awesome find. Will need to try something different the next time I meander down here. Definitely recommend.

  • Shannon R.

This is probably my favorite coffee place in downtown San Diego. They don't make their coffee scorching hot, it's perfect. The staff is beyond friendly and the environment is very calming. I recommend this place 100%

This cool little coffee shop has been a great addition to the downtown/broadway neighborhood! It is a small shop, with a limited amount of seating, but I usually grab a drink togo so it's perfect. The quality of their coffee is really good, and I frequently get just regular coffee, but my go to drink is the salted caramel latte. It is just the right combination of coffee and sweet. Not too bitter, not too sweet. I like to call it Baby Bear because it's juuusst riiiight! The staff is always super friendly, whether it's James (the owner) or Joe or Celeste(the super awesome baristas), everyone is super nice. So if you're in the area and need a quick pick me up, this is the place to go!

  • Kyle H.

This place has good coffee. Especially good for all those working downtown that want an alternative to Starbucks or other large chains. It is usually affordable, quick and delicious! It also looks like a comfortable place to relax or get work done. I recommend it and have become a regular!

Great local roaster. Right on Broadway across from the NBC building. I love their giant bottles of cold brew coffee. Grab n go! Or stay for a great pull of espresso. I love having more coffee joints in San Diego. Too bad we don't have a winter, otherwise we would probably have more.

Want to meet some of the most knowledgeable people in the coffee bean industry? sample one of the best latte's you've ever had? Then make sure to poke your head into this coffee shop! They told me they had recently opened, but have been roasting their own coffee beans for many years in San Diego! The Barista's were very friendly, and knowledgeable! I had a great time hanging out enjoying some good java! Thanks again for the delicious elixir of the God's!

Had a delicious caffe mocha at The West Bean in sunny San Diego Sleek new shop and friendly staff. Quick service for those on the go!

  • Jennifer O.

The staff is extremely friendly, but not intrusively so. In the time I sat in the shop finishing my drink, several people came in who seemed to be loyal regulars. My cold brew coffee and lemon poppy seed scone were tasty. The decor is mostly contemporary minimalist, so it doesn't have a cozy feel, but it's still a nice place to enjoy a caffeinated beverage.

Finally, the 3rd wave coffee shop that downtown San Diego has long been yearning for! Located on Broadway in the retail space below the Westgate Hotel (directly across from the NBC Building/Horton Plaza), the shop is central to the bustle of the downtown business district. The aesthetic is minimalist industrial chic and they make great use of their space so that it feels inviting both to those who need to hustle back to work or those who have time to sit and enjoy their beverage in-house. More importantly, their coffee is incredible. Hands-down the best in downtown and arguably the best in San Diego. The owners/baristas are perfectionists and take pride in crafting each cup to the customer's liking and specifications. They're friendly and knowledgable and provide great service. The WestBean has a variety of pour-over options and are experts at pulling the perfect shot of espresso. On a warm day, I recommend giving the cold brewed coffee a shot. It comes straight out of a tap on the wall and is incredibly smooth. If you are a fan of flavored drinks, they have hand-crafted chocolate, vanilla, and salted caramel syrups that several of my friends have raved about. They also have an original chai recipe for tea lattes. For the tea drinkers, they have organic, hand-crafted, loose-leaf teas from Mad Monk Tea on hand. And their sandwiches, salads, and baked goods all come from the Kensington Cafe, so you can't go wrong if you need a bite to eat with your drink. Needless to say, as one who works downtown and has struggled to find good coffee nearby, I'm thrilled to have this shop to frequent.

Good coffee, but parking was a bit of a nightmare. Cute space. We are strongly recommended to get coffee here - and when people recommend things to me I tend to put such a high expectation on it that in this case I ended up a little disappointed

Great coffee!! I have enjoyed the West Bean coffee for years! I know my coffee, west bean keeps company in my home with four barrel, vivace, verve, heart, stumptown and so on. Truly a classic in the making. Enjoy, I do!! Nice guys, kind and caring customer service.

I don't really like to many coffee places but this place is the best coffee I had in a while. They make there own syrup and there coffee is not acidic were I hurt later. They also know don't burn the almond milk when making lattes. Great place, the only trouble is parking.

  • Ari R.

This is a great place to go if you work downtown. The shop has a semi cool look but also a semi generic look. They tried but should have gone all the way design wise. Seems a bit corporate. The cold brew ice coffee could be stronger. Americano was unremarkable. The Salted Caramel latte sounds great and the sauce looked homemade. If I make it down there again, that's would I would get.

My fiancé and I stayed at the US Grant for our vacation to San Diego. It was rain all day, we finally decided just to stroll around downtown / Gaslamp area. I came from Java and I also lived in Washington State as well. Both places fill with coffee snobs as you know, that made me really picky about my coffee. We walked around and saw WestBean Coffee, at first I wasn't sure if this is going to be a good coffee shop. We finally walked in and ordered 2 coffee latte, with almond milk, no sugar. Just plain black and almond milk. I took a sip and I can't believe what I tasted, it's so smooth yet pretty strong coffee (not watered down coffee). Being a coffee drinker, it's hard for me to "fall in love in the first sip". You see, I have travelled many states and not to mentions coffee shops and this is one of the best coffee I ever tasted. I am glad I didn't put any sugar, because the taste of coffee itself is so delicious and I can't believe it was almond milk because it was creamy enough or they just did amazing job to froth the milk. The baristas are friendly, they are kinda quite though, which is no problem at all. Some people just want to be left alone in a coffee shop... The ambiance is a bit noisy because it's located by the busy street. I guess this is more for people who grab coffee on the way to work or after lunch. After the first round of coffee, me and my fiancé got the second round. I got the Oolong Tea to-go and he got a cup of Long Black to-go. The Oolong tea was strong, which is good because I love strong tea. The Long Black was pretty smooth too, my fiancé liked it! I would definitely come back here and I am actually trying to order their coffee beans, I just have to email them which one that they use on the store because it was SO GOOD.

coffee tasted watered down..if you like coffee on the weaker lighter side you may disagree with my review. Wasn't feeling the vibe behind the counter either. chalk it up to an off day? who knows. i'm a Peets guy..like strong coffee that doesn't taste like tea. And $3.75 for a cup? I was ready to call the Crisis hotline after walking away feeling dirty and used.

  • Vanessa D.

They have the best coffee I have ever had in my life and I have had A LOT of coffee. While I worked downtown I went there every day and was never disappointed. It's almost impossible for me to drink coffee from any other roaster now. I stock up on beans if I know I have to go out of town. The staff are amazing and friendly, you really just can't do better than this place. I would suggest trying their cold brew coffee on tap or a latte but honestly anything you get is going to be amazing. They even bottle their cold brew coffee if you just can't get enough in the shop. They also make all their coffee syrups in house and they are all delicious so if you prefer Chai to coffee you won't be left out. Everyone there is also extremely knowledgable about coffee and are always happy to answer any questions. And if you walk out with some whole bean coffee, my current favorite is the Oaxaca roast.

Amazing coffee and nice atmosphere. The baristas are extremely knowledgeable here. Would recommend to any coffee enthusiast visiting San Diego. Only problem was I couldn't get their wifi to work, but that isn't necessarily their fault nor was it a big deal.

    (5)
  • Britney M.

Just so good. They make their own syrup for vanilla latte, that's what I get and I love it. The beans are so deliciously roasted, pair that with my almond milk and my late is perfection. Thank you for the milk alternatives. Thank you for the homemade syrup. Thank you for the friendly Thor look alike to encourage me to open my eyes so early in the morning. Thank you for the free WiFi. Thank you for the yummy brown butter espresso muffin I had this morning. Thank you for the quick service. Thank you!

First time here and it instantly became our go-to coffee shop when we're in the area. This is located on Broadway, below the Westgate hotel and directly across the street from the NBC news station. It's small, minimalistic, yet inviting. There's seating in the shop and two tables located outside of the shop. We ordered a cortado and flat white and both beverages were the best ones we have had to date in San Diego {we've tried a couple from other local coffee shops}! Joe, the barista was on shift that evening and he was welcoming, friendly, and knowledgable...just how we like 'em. I highly suggest you check them out especially since it's the best coffee shop in that part of downtown...maybe even the best.

Loved the coffee, cookies and the service!!! A must when visiting San Diego. Try the Kryptonite Coffee!! Delicious!!!

  • Carlos B.

This review will basically mirror Westbean's menu, short, but very well done. I've had their iced black coffee (bitter yes, but with a hint of sweetness due to their amazing cold press process) the Iced Salted Caramel Latte (This drink has the perfect amount of sweetness, and the 3 times I've had it, it is always consistent.) and their handmade marshmallow (perfection). This is quite possibly downtown, or maybe San Diego's best quality micro-batched coffee shop, the Salted Caramel Latte is almost sure to make any man or woman's leg quiver.

Jury Duty? Only possible with West Bean Cold Brew!!! This place is legit. Had a delicious latte on my way in to fulfill my civic duty today...it passed the test with flying colors. So much so that for my afternoon fix, I walked right past Coffee Bean and the extra block to try the well reviewed Cold Brew. West Bean Cold Brew is simply the best iced coffee I have ever had.

Great little coffee shop ran by a some great people. I only met one of the owners but he was a really nice guy that is passionate about coffee. As far as I know, this is one of the very very few third wave coffee shops in downtown San Diego. I was visiting the area and my Yelp mobile app pointed me here because it had opened recently and had great reviews. I ordered a pour over coffee and it was brewed with precision and of course tasted great. The atmosphere is really nice as well. Check this great local shop out!!

Awesome espresso. Best downtown. It's hard to find an awesome cup without pretentious baristas. These guys at great. Just had the mint infused cold brew. It's served with little brown sugar and half-half. I usually do straight espresso, neat. But this is awesome, barely sweet, not too milky, mint cuts through. It's awesome.

    (5)
  • Matthew C.

Yes. Hallelujah. Legitimately well-made coffee in downtown. They have a cortado in a glass cup, "como Dios manda". And the taste and presentation is perfect. Basically, this place feels like someone read my mind and opened the exact coffee shop of my dreams within a one-minute walk from my office. Sometimes life is perfect!

Awesome coffee with homemade syrups! Small menu, but they are excellent at the items they do have! Very knowledgeable staff that are willing to answer question! Glad I stopped by during my trip to San Diego!

This place is amazing and my new local coffee shop of choice! Their cold brew is to die for and if they don't have what your looking for they'll point you in the right direction to another local shop within the area. Ses and Jamie are Jamie are super friendly and it's always good chatting with them. I recommend their cold brew and if you like minty flavored coffee they're experimenting with flavored cold brews first of being their delicious kryptonite. I highly recommend anything from the menu!

    (5)
  • Victoria L.

This place is pretty straightforward. They have a simple menu simple set up simple decoration, no frills. I've only tried their lattes and they're probably some of the best I've had. Their prices are also reasonable considering the quality. Definitely my go to during the week since it's right across from work. *ETA okay there's a barista there with attitude. The first time I thought it was a fluke second time it was definitely real. Knocked off a star because WTF girl you can keep all the attitude however you can hand over my latte to go

A little gem in a busy part of downtown. Perfect for just heading in and doing a grab and go. They do almond milk right. Their coffee is not watered down, is smooth, strong, and doesn't need a million additions to hide behind. It's coffee done right! Their menu does not have a million things to offer, but it doesn't need it- it speaks for it's self!

This is my new go-to coffee spot Downtown. After months of disappointing "flat whites" from Starbucks - which were more like tiny overpriced lattes - I finally found a shop that can make them JUST RIGHT. The staff is super friendly and easy on the eyes. Being directly across the street from my building doesn't hurt either! All in all, it is a perfect trifecta .... convenient, good vibe, and well made coffee. Skip the burnt coffee chains and try a real cup of Joe at West Bean!

I saw that this place I had just opened up and I knew I needed to check it out. Very awesome setup and architectural design. All the members of the team working were super helpful and nice. Plus, most importantly, the coffee was insanely good. My only minor complaint is that it was a little crowded, but you should expect that from a place like this. Great place.

Popped into this small unassuming place since it was close to my hotel and was immediately hooked on their coffee. I had a flat white (1st time I've heard of it) that was rich and flavorful without bitterness. I would be there everyday if there was a WestBean in NYC! Move over Starbucks! Also had a cranberry biscotti that was addicting. The staff was friendly and , although I won't have the luxury of having a barrista at home, they told me I could order their beans to ship to NY.

I came here with high expectations. The set up is pretty cool as they have high tech looking equipment and innovative machines. The problem for me was the lack of personality from the workers and the lack of choices on drinks and snacks (bagels, pastries). I can honestly say this place is probably great for the hardcore coffee drinkers, meaning those who drink their coffee straight up, with no added frills or flavors. I, on the other hand am one of those Mexican Mocha loving, white chocolate mocha drinking girls and found the lack of variety here disappointing. I got the salted caramel and couldn't tell the difference between that and something I'd get at Starbucks. Needless to say, for my taste I wasn't impressed and maybe if the staff had been happier I wouldn't have left with such discouragement.

  • Julius N.

A little hard to find. But once found, had great vibes and a cool atmosphere. The guys pouring the coffee are super nice and willing to answer any coffee geek questions. Coffee is good, though I'm not for the heavier bodied pour over.

  • M D.

For serious coffee drinkers, and the rest of us too! The coffee is like nothing else you will taste in San Diego and is roasted locally. These guys know their coffee, and are genuinely happy to talk about it, without making you feel like it's a foreign language. :) The cafe and staff are warm and inviting. Try it out and you'll never set foot in that chain store location again.

Hands down my new favorite coffee shop in San Diego! I ordered the salted caramel latte and I've never sipped on such a chef d'oeuvre poured by the co-owner James. Although the menu is simple, everything they do is to perfection. After the latte the other co-owner Andrew offered me a free cup of their black teas and I swear I have never seen a cup steeped with such care! The ambiance is modern but inviting, and the bench that runs the length of the back wall is an actual tree which I found pretty unique in this day and age of Starbucks generic design. The sign hanging on in front of the cafe is really nicely done as well. Best part about this cafe is that they actually roast and sell their beans online and from their roasting operation near mission gorge so if you're not downtown you don't have to be west bean deprived. Great product, great staff/service, just a great place to be in San Diego!

I love anything salty+sweet and cannot rave enough about the Salted Caramel Latte, which I prefer iced (vs. hot). You've already read about how amazing their coffee is -- now coupled with a buttery house-made caramel and the right amount of salt... perfection in a cup.

Just stopped by there to do some work and the place is awesome. Very simple decor and modern. Employees are super friendly. Oh, and the coffee, crafty and delicious. Highly recommended for meetings, downtime, or a date :)

The best iced vanilla latte I've ever ordered. It came out exactly the way I wanted it, not too sweet and very flavorful. The service was great and they even have space outside for you to sit on a nice day. I can't wait to tell everyone about this place! Also can't wait to return :)

  • Chad Y.

The best coffee I've ever had. I buy my beans from them; pounds of it at a time. If it didn't give me a panic attack I would drink a gallon day. James and Andrew (owners) have become friends of mine. I've seen the process they go through to get their delicious brew to your lips, and it is done with the highest quality and pride.

Awesome coffee! I had a caramel salted latte and my hubby had one of the coffees they have on tap and he loved it! They also made a really cute milk with chocolate for my two year old. My coffee had a heart design! Loved that they were also kid friendly in addition to great coffee! Owner was there which was pretty cool. Just wish West Bean would come to NY!

Hard to understand the positive reviews. My latte was so weak, literally almost all milk, I could barely taste the coffee. Extremely surprising for a company that does only one thing (they do not even sell fresh juice and carry only a few pastries). Perhaps just bad luck, but this place needs better quality control for their prices. I would pick Starbucks any day over here.

I have been a fan of West Bean coffee for years and it is so exciting that they expanding into retail stores. I am a busy Mom & frankly enjoy someone else brewing my coffee for me!! The lattes here are delicious as is (surprisingly as it is a serious coffee joint) the loose tea. I am also a new fan of the "cold brew" which they feature here. The shop has a cool aesthetic and is clean and modern. The staff is great - super friendly and welcoming, The location is prime, on Broadway downtown SD across from NBC building and not too far from Horton Plaza. I expect to be a regular.

Delicious cafe latte. The space is very cozy and cool decorated. Super friendly stuff. Perfect coffee place when you live in downtown. Will definitely be back.

The coffee and espresso here is top notch. Some of the best cold brew I've ever had also. The coffee is smooth and full of flavor.

Best coffee in San Diego! You have to try the Salted Carmel coffee. They roast their own coffee beans and make their own Carmel syrup! It's amazing!

Well, let me start this review by saying that I don't like coffee. But like any non-coffee drinker, I frequently find myself with someone who wants coffee. So it was that I went to the West Bean. I normally have a tough time finding a drink in a coffee house as I'm pretty picky about what I can deal with (obviously). Anyway, after explaining this to James and hearing how he makes his chai ingredients himself, I decided to give the chai tea latte a shot. In my experience, chai tea lattes usually come out in one of two ways - super sweet from a syrup (read Starbucks) or basically just the tea with some milk in it which has this kind of bland taste (most boutique coffee shops). What can I say? He blew me away with his version of this drink. It was sweetened just perfectly with strong hints of honey in it and I savored every last drop of it. Can't wait to have another!

I'm lucky to have been a WestBean fan from the early days. I make their coffee every single morning! It's the first thing I look forward to. (I don't even think I speak to my kids or husband until I get the brew started!) You can imagine how excited I was to learn that the WestBean gods were opening a cafe downtown. Unfortunately, because I no longer work downtown, it cannot be a daily ritual for me. Instead, I have found myself there for the past 3 Saturdays with my kiddos for hot chocolate and lattes. People, I drive from Scripps Ranch to downtown for a cup of coffee. Yes, it is THAT GOOD. My new obsession is the flat white with almond milk. Behold, the perfect cup of caffeine! The baristas are professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Everything about this place is warm and inviting. You simply must stop by.

I was visiting San Diego for a conference, and wanted to hit up a coffeeshop with a little more of an indie feel than a Starbucks or Coffee Bean. This place is sweet! Great coffee, cookies, AC and wifi. I had a flat white and it was perfect. Strongly recommend this place for a chill coffee spot in the Gaslamp.

After tasting The West Bean's coffee beans at home (delicious!) I knew I had to check out their coffee shop on Broadway. I don't work or live downtown but it is definitely worth the drive on a Saturday morning from Chula Vista. I had their salted caramel almond milk latte and it was delicious!!! Just the right amount of sweetness but not over the top. I will definitely be making more weekend trips and plan to bring my kids up for hot chocolate with delicious homemade marshmallows next time. The baristas were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Incredible coffee and a really central location in the heart of downtown. If you like good coffee, this is the place to check out. Cool vibe inside and the service was friendly and fast.

Hands down: the best coffee shop I have ever been to. They introduced me to cold brewed coffee and I am a much better human being for it. They recommended that I try the caramel latte which is not normally my thing, but the caramel was homemade so I gave it shot. I ended up buying a second one to go, two days in a row!!! Previous to going to Westbean I thought the best coffee I had ever had was in Kona.

The Ethiopian Derar Ela pour over gets 5 stars. The service is prompt and friendly and would get 4.33 stars, if that were possible. The location is modern and clean, grey industrial, with filament light bulbs... Pretty stock for downtown, hipster, professional friendly, coffee shop vibe. They only occasionally play music, which makes me think they don't want me to sit and stay. The outside patio is too spare and not really an enjoyable place to enjoy a cup of coffee, not sure if they are not allowed to put up a little wooden fence and some planters with succulents, or of they just haven't thought of it yet, but I digress. The real issue I can see about this location is a total lack of parking. Maybe this is intentional, and they expect that most of their patrons will be on foot coming from the surrounding office buildings, but what if I wanted to stop and grab a pour over on the way in to work....? Great local roaster in SD, getting it right, just some small location specific issues.

I have been a fan of West Bean coffee since the beginning so when I heard they were opening up a cafe downtown I knew I would have to check it out immediately. Not ones to disappoint, the space is warm, inviting and just as awesome as their coffee. It's location is central and convenient to the downtown work crowd as it is located across the street from the NBC building in the Westgate Hotel building. I tried the Salted Caramel Latte (made from scratch with their own caramel syrup) and it was HEAVEN. I cannot wait to check out the rest of their menu!

I never thought of myself as a coffee connoisseur until I went to West bean. I have drank a lot of coffee in my time but never has a cup tasted as good as their salted caramel latte. So then I went back and tried their chai latte and was equally as impressed. I have now gone through all of their coffees including just plain black and I think I've become an addict. This place is really really good.

It was my first time there and I ordered the cold brew as that was highly recommended item. I usually add half&half or milk to my coffee, but this particular drink is so smooth it didn't need it. Good quality coffee. I look forward to trying other items there. The staff team was knowledgeable, helpful, and very upbeat. Hopeful they open more locations closer to my office or home.

This is the best coffee ever. I use their beans regularly at home. Last week i visited their shop on Broadway and had a salted/carmel latte. It was to die for. The staff is young and friendly and the environment calm and inviting. Give it a try, you won't regret it. Could be your new "go to" place.

Everything about this place screams quality. I've been to this place three times now and have been impressed by the quality of the flavor and friendliness of the staff each time. Check this place out and you'll see exactly what I mean.

Love this new place downtown! The coffee is fabulous (specially that cold brewed. Yum!) The guys working there could not be any nicer; great customer service. I got caught in the rain without an umbrella and one of the baristas gave me a plastic bag for my head, kept my hair from frizzing out. Tip: the cafe is located between Verizon and ATT, in a tall building. The first time I went by, I didn't see it. Look for it! It's worth it!!!

If you enjoy a great cup of micro batch pour-over coffee and a staff that is passionate about their craft then you have to add this to your list of places to check out. The cold brew coffee (my favorite) is hands down the very best you'll find in San Diego and they also have a wide selection of premium tea. Very clean, organized and an all around good vibe every time I come in. Welcome to Downtown WestBean!
